MSCL Remote Banking Transaction Server (RBTS)

RBTS© is copy righted by Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) of Pakistan with registration ID 33473.
RBTS™ is a set of integrated software modules and provides Interface to host banking systems to communicate with the applications controlling remote banking devices. RBTS can communicate in ISO8583 format or non-ISO format. ISO8583 is a standard specification for creating and reading transaction messages for remote banking. RBTS provides communication across ATMs, Point of Sale (POS), Kiosks, Call Center, Internet, Swift/Remittance and network-to-network real time transactions device controllers using common TCP/IP Protocol.

RBTS version 2 (V2) provides major enhancements over version 1 in terms of functionalities, maintainability, usability and availability.V2 also enhances RBTS audit trail and reconciliation functions. An enhanced MIS module improves management control for Remote Banking Business.

RBTS is framework based middleware system. The framework for V2 has been further refined, made more robust and modular. RBTS V2 based on this framework supports more Remote Banking devices, Channels and host banking systems. As obvious from the framework, RBTS V2 comprises of the following modules.

1. CONTROLLER MANAGER

This module manages trusted connection with the remote banking controllers, for example; ATM, POS, Kiosk, Call Center, Internet Banking and Swift/Remittance. This includes validation and authentication of connection based on the business and operation rules. RBTS/Wisdom offers facilities to define these rules through parameters. The module operates in listening mode all time to ensure timely handling of controllers’ messages. These messages are forwarded to message processor.

2. MESSAGE PROCESSOR

Message processor works on the principles of queuing and multi-threading. This ensures faster message processing and still maintaining message integrity. It handles both Standard ISO8583 and Non-Standard formats. RBTS/V2 supports both ISO 8583 versions i.e. 1987 and 1993. The processed message is forwarded to Transaction Manager.

3. TRANSACTION MANAGER

Transaction Manager parses the message to identify Financial and Non-Financial Transactions and manages the processing according to the Access Facility of host banking system. It identifies host system for host manager and passes relevant information to Host manager. Both ISO 8583 compliant and non-compliant messages are converted in to a common message format. Transaction Manager forwards transaction messages to the Host Manager and forwards Host response to these messages back to the Message Processor.

4. RULE MANAGER

Rule manager manages business and operational rules through parameters. Also applies polices for transaction charges, host system mode, RBTS log maintenance, Disaster/Recovery and password management. All rules are stored in RBTS database. The user interface to the Rule Manager is provided by RBTS/Wisdom.

5. HOST MANAGER

Host Manager manages connection with multiple Host Banking Systems, receives transactions from RBTS Transaction Manager and passes on to appropriate Host Banking System for processing. Then retrieves the response from host banking system and makes this available to Transaction Manager through Integration Layer.

6. INTEGRATION LAYER

All components of RBTS are bound together in a single application through Integration layer. This also provides seamless interfaces across different RBTS V2 components.

7. RBTS CENTRAL DATABASE

This is the repository of all required data and information defining business rules, operation rules, controller message formats, host system definitions and devices information. This also stores transaction logs for audit trail and reconciliation functions. This relational, normalized and secured database can be manipulated by RBTS/Wisdom module to provide required MIS and business control.

8. CENTRAL OPERATION MANAGER

The central operation executes Start of the Day process and End of day Process. It maintains transactions IN/OUT logs in RBTS Central Database and clears RBTS Logs as defined in operational rules. Also executes Disaster/Recovery processes as defined in operational rules.

9. RBTS/WISDOM

RBTS/Wisdom enables Business Managers to manage Remote Banking business by analyzing transactions trends, performance measurements and rule management. For this purpose Wisdom generates meaningful, customizable reports and online queries. It ensures transaction integrity through Audit Trail and transaction logs. Its reconciliation function provides reports to meet central accounting needs. Wisdom provides built-in intelligence to the Business Managers facilitating efficient management of Remote Banking business.

10. RBTS/CLOUD MODULE

Attracting business and retaining competitive edge for the banks now means that the banks need to provide banking and related services on demand and where the customers want it.

RBTS/Cloud is a comprehensive inter-branch banking module of RBTS. It is convenient, secure, and flexible banking channel enables the banks to capitalize on their existing infrastructure for handling their inter-branch transactions with multiple core-banking host systems.

RBTS/Cloud module has two layers framework; one is the Front End Layer which is Browser Based User Interface and second is the Back End Layer which acts as a switching layer connected to multiple Banking Host Controllers concurrently at back end.

It communicates with the Host Controllers using common TCP/IP Protocol. It can communicate using ISO8583 format or non-ISO format. ISO8583 is a standard specification for creating and reading transaction messages for remote banking.

It accepts transactions from branch users through its browser based user interface, performs validation of transactions and routing them to required destinations. It acts as a financial switch through which it performs all the financial and non-financial transactions. It extends the inter-branch funds transfers from accounts on one Banking Host to accounts on other Banking Host.

RBTS/Cloud manages all the transactions logs for audit trail and reconciliation functions into RBTS Central Database.

11. Centralized User Management System (Centum)

is a web based module which is aimed to maintain a centralized repository of all users of electronic systems along with all security measures related to user management, thereby eliminating the need to do user management for each individual system. This is single entry point for authorized users for accessing any browser based systems.
